Killer of spiders

The black-banded spider wasp (Anoplius viaticus) represents the spider wasps family (Pompilidae). Females of this species hunt for spider in spring, paralyze and then burrow them with their eggs – one egg + one spider in one underground cell. The larva feeds on still-living but completely harmless spider and finishes its development in July.

Then the mating occurs. After that males perish and females prepare themselves for hibernation. They will wait until spring comes…
